For years, I put EVERYONE and EVERYTHING ahead of me. I have let my own health and self-care go as well as my fitness. I don’t like the way I feel and I’m ashamed I’ve let it get this far.  

I know what I need to do. I consider myself reasonably smart--most things in my life I have done well. I have tried to do things for me before, but it’s hard to feel like you’re making progress when you are doing ALL the things. I want something different.  

A part of me feels ashamed--I don’t want to be seen as someone that fails at THIS. I mean, taking care of me shouldn’t be THAT HARD.  

My body aches some days because it’s hard for me to be consistent with any activity. My weight is up and down, and a part of me thinks I should just accept being out of shape and overweight. I find I don’t recover as well and it steals my motivation.  

I try to do some things, but I quickly figure out it's just TOO MUCH WORK. It’s hard to do this, and I don’t know exactly how to do it. I want to do things that are EASY because I just want to FEEL better. How hard can that be?  

And I want TIME for ME. Because I never get it.  

Time to think. Time to just BE. And Time to find what works for ME again.  

I would LOVE to have the ENERGY levels I desire, so I can ENJOY the second half of my life.  

I want to do better for ME, so I can LIVE the life I want with those that mean the most to me.  

I want to say YES to me and to MY life.

Work. Meetings. The Family. The kids and grandkids. More meetings and activities. All the commitments. All the THINGS.

And sometimes you just need a break. The stress of it all is so hard on you. Physically. Mentally. Emotionally. Spiritually.  

You find it hard to simply disconnect and ‘turn your brain off’ because you are too busy being cruise director, event planner, coordinator and all the other hats you wear EVERY DAY.  

And to get the BREAK you so desperately and deservedly need requires spending some time out of your regular routine to help give you a break and do something for YOU!  

So you can get unstuck. And find a NEW way forward.  

And stop MISSING OUT on your life the way YOU want it.  

You know life is short. And you know you WANT something different.

Alison Katschkowsky

Alison is a native North Carolinian—born in Durham, and raised in Shelby, and she has lived all over the state.  

During graduate school, Alison became a group fitness instructor and fitness expert and throughout her 30+ year career has enjoyed working with others both privately and in group settings to help coach and inspire them to achieve a higher level of health, fitness and longevity through a number of practices.   

Alison owns CU Fitness, holds numerous certifications both in training and within the group fitness industry, dabbles in “athleisure” clothing and style (check out her line—La Senorita Jolie—all American made), enjoys writing for several health and fitness publications, has a podcast, “The Ultimate Journey in Self-Care” and is currently writing a book.
